AT&T has been my dad’s cell phone provider forever. We decided that he was paying too much and decided to move him over to Google Fi with me. He’s going from around $70 for just calls and messaging to $40 for unlimited everything.
He has an older Moto g7 Play Android phone. Long story short we couldn’t unlock it even though we were eligible. Spent an hour or two on support with AT&T.
Turns out the issue was the Unlock app doesn’t support Android 9. This Reddit post comment was the fix.
After installing the Lenovo application, I reset the phone, it installed the latest and greatest Android 10, I updated the Unlock app via the Play Store, and low and behold it unlocked and we could go forward migrating his number over. howto dad
